This paper provides an overview of visual question answering (VQA), a machine learning problem related to answering complex questions about a static image – its contents, properties, the presence, absence or number of certain objects in it and so forth. It reviews the current datasets containing visual questions & answers, the state-of-the-art VQA models, and proposes areas for further improvement.
